ROMEO & JULIET
UK & EUROPEAN TOUR 2006 - 2008
Throughout 2006, 2007 and early 2008, No Nonsense Theatre Company enjoyed a UK and Eastern European tour of an exciting visual theatre adaptation of Romeo & Juliet, directed by Esther Richardson. Romeo & Juliet played at The Lowry, Salford, Waterside Arts Centre, Burnley Youth Theatre, Buxton Opera House, Horse & Bamboo and many school and community venues. Not content with touring the UK, No Nonsense Theatre then went on an adventure!
The Company drove a very large van full of puppets, props and masks and took Europe by storm! First stop for Romeo & Juliet was The Therese Malten Villa in Dresden - a beautiful stylish Neo Renaissane villa built for the famous opera singer Therese Malten in 1892. The Company stayed in luxury surroundings and enjoyed eating some very yummy German food and visiting Dresden's famous royal palace.
Next we drove to Krakow in Poland and performed to packed houses at the beautiful Teatr Groteska - the theatre was established in 1945 by Zofia and Wladyslaw Jarema. Originally it was a puppet theatre for children but it also promoted new forms of a mask and actor theatre for adult audiences.

Finally we performed at the Centre of Education in Piekary. This is a very special school that was built in 2000. It is a high school for gifted and talented young people living in Poland. The school welcomes young people whose families still live in the country's poorest rural areas and struggle to make a living and educate their children. No Nonsense Theatre continues to make regular trips to Piekary and always enjoys performing to and working with these very special young people. The Company also enjoyed having a couple of glasses of vodka with our host Father Jacek!!
Romeo & Juliet was mentored by award-winning theatre company Horse & Bamboo.
